Double Photo of the Week & Two Ways to Submit Your Photos!

I regret that, due to extenuating circumstances, I was unable to give you a photo of the week last Wednesday. This week, to make up for it, I’m bringing you two photos of the week!

I also have two different ways you can send us your photographs! First, the deadline for Fishing the West Coast 2010 is fast approaching! Get your entries in today!

Second, if you have photos related to the history of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery or the West Coast fishing industry, we want to talk to you! We would like to extend an invitation for members of the community and visitors alike to bring in your photos, have them scanned, and tell us about them. Help contribute to the history and preservation of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and the West Coast fishing industry by adding your photos to our digital collection. Please contact Heidi Rampfl, Collections Manager for more information or to make an appointment to have your photos scanned. Call 604-664-9007 or email Heidi.

And now, our two photos of the week:

G2004.035.002

Mystery Machine

Photographed inside the Gulf of Georgia Cannery in 1949, this machine, possibly an engine or generator, remains a mystery. Both the glass window to the right and the supported ceiling in the background of the picture suggest this engine or generator was located on the lower floor of the cannery. A large pipe is also connected to the machine from somewhere out of view, possibly for ventilation. This photograph is part of the Helen McDonald Photographs and measures 4 X 6 inches.

1997.071.008

Mystery Paddlewheeler

This photograph from 1920 shows an unidentified steam paddlewheeler sailing along the Skeena River. Taken by photographer Norris Taylor, this picture is now part of the Norris Taylor Photo Collection. This photograph is a copy of black and white photograph, measuring 5 X 7 inches.

If you help us identify these photographs, please either post a comment or email Rachel.
